Seeing Christ in Christmas

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9.6

A friend of mine shared a few ideas with me about Christmas, and I thought he had some real interesting points:

For instance, have you ever wandered why we celebrate Christmas in the dead day of winter ? Could it be to remind us that even when the world is at it’s absolute darkest, there’s a light that comes shining through, a light that drives out the darkness, and that light is Jesus Christ !

Have you ever wandered why it’s customary to display a Christmas tree in your home ? Maybe it’s because The Savior died upon a tree. He died upon a cross and that cross was made from a tree.

Why do we hang decorations on our Christmas trees ? Quite possibly, it’s to serve as a reminder, that as Jesus hung upon the cross ( tree ), your sins, and the wrath of God was placed upon Him. He took your sins, and the punishment for those sins upon Himself. So that God could do the right thing – judge sin , and in return offer you forgiveness, i.e. everlasting life. While He was hanging on that tree, He was taking your place !

I encourage you this Christmas season to truly spend time considering, and contemplating what Jesus has done for you. If you have never truly put your faith in Christ, and what He has accomplished, I implore you to do so right this very second, don’t waste another minute, pray to Him right where you are. Give Him your heart, He offers you His !
